The Distance
My parents divorced when I was very young, and I consequently never knew my father well. He would visit at times as I was growing-up, and we tried living together a couple of times, but those times were few and far between. Needless to say, I had no real relationship with my father, and didn't feel I needed to. I felt totally detached...until I did an empowerment seminar through Landmark Education in the fall of 2003. During that 4 day seminar, I came to believe that even though he died some 20 years earlier, a relationship with him could still be very possible, and very real. This song was written the very next week, and is my way of remembering that my father, Jeremiah Patrick Barry,
didn't need to be there...to be there.
